The Last Gasp
I always get a bit maudlin this time of year. You can feel the promise of winters chill in the morning air. With it though comes natures last gasp with a spectacular color show before the gray and white of winters blanket puts the land to sleep.
On the first, the OH and I went for a bike ride along the Cannon River and enjoyed the vibrant colors. Sadly they are gone now and snow is in the forecast for later this week. The memory though, lingers on.

Gorgeous.
I always like this time of year for pretty much the same reasons you don't.
Spectacular!
What a beautiful backyard! Fall is my favorite time of year. I get all mushy and dreamy and romantic during this time, even if I don't have a guy with me. It's just such a magical time!
Mal,
Those leaves are very pretty. The NC leaves are just starting to turn and will get some help from cold weather this weekend. No more bike rides with just my Speedo.
I know when the weather guy said "Snow", I had to rewind and hear it again...it's a little early, but it probably won't last long.
Mal! Gorgeous pictures! I love the fall. On the train to work this morning I put down my book to look at the turning leaves actually. It’s the end and the beginning at the same time.
What beautiful trees! We have the same thing going on here, except it's been especially warm. I know we're about to turn the corner to the really cold weather.
Good luck with the snow. I think it's exciting to get those first few flurries!
I love autumn as well, though I have to travel to be bathed in color.
Snow .. So early .. Hmm Thats nice ..
./thanks

Those leaves are truly breathtaking.
Nothing like this in California, at least that I know of!
the trees are beautiful here now, but snow is suppose to come on Thursday (yeah if it covers the leaves, but it'll probably just make a mess).
To me, the worst thing about autumn is the shorter days. I don't like waking up in the dark, and I don't like coming home from work in the dark.
I had sugar maples when we lived in Richmond. They were gorgeous this time of year.
Sadly, our palm trees here in Tampa don't do much in the fall.
Sigh.
