NASCAR Mentality?

I do quite a bit of work related driving. I am not sure if it is my advancing age or a true perception but it seems drivers are much more aggressive than they used to be.

Stupidly so at times.

Is it the effect of NASCAR on the collective psyche? Could it be that no one bothers to understand Newtons Laws?

I had a long drive home Friday night. It was made longer as a result of the Interstate being shut down in two places due to fatal car wrecks.

Shake n' bake. I'm on fire, I'm on fire. If you ain't first you're last.

Only the Baby Jesus can take you to Heaven after a drunk illegal Mexican runs into you head on.

I admit I drive a bit fast, but not recklessly. It would help a lot if other drivers would not instist on staying in the left lane when not passing anybody.

Also, summertime in NH means the old people coming up from Florida and scaring the beejeezuz out of me, especially on my motorcycle.

People just don't think cars are dangerous. People are more careful chopping up vegetables (e.g., they won't try to place a call on their cell phone and tune the radio at the same time they're chopping) then they are driving a ton of steel down a highway.

Pygmies in Africa will run under an elephant to show how brave they are. They would never ride with a teenager. People who spend their childhood playing video games where they get killed and just pop back up are not gonna be all that worried about consequences.

What's worse is the number of accidents caused by accidents. Though it's against the law in CA, rubber-necking is the norm.

Ouch!

A couple of teenagers around here found out how lucky they were this past weekend. I have seen some smashed up cars, but nothing this bad, semi vs. small car. 'nuff said.

I have to say i find myself zipping around in manners not meant for the average street.
I've noticed the same.

Lately I've tried to make a conscience effort to slow down, take it easy, take in the sites. If I'm late, well then next time I need to leave earlier, no?

We seen some really stupid accidents with younger kids around here and most alcohol related but all involve too much speed.

Having driven in other countries, I can say that road rage is strictly a United States phenominon for whatever reason.

In Europe where they drive much faster, the big difference is that people always get into the slow lane whether traffic is behind them or not. Here in America, that is definitely not the case.

In third world countries where the only road rule is that there are no road rules, I still don't see road rage even though getting cutting off or run off the road is a frequent occurance. For them it is just the way of life.

My guess is that it all stems towards our attitudes. We believe driving is a right and not a priviledge and thus stems the differences in attitudes.
