Was it Ever About Character?

Minnesota Collegiate athletics was hit with another scandal yesterday when Dominic Jones was arrested for rape. Police have DNA and video evidence linking him to the crime.

We seem to see way too much of this in college and professional athletes. Is there something about being in the lime light that makes these people lose their perspective? Did they ever have perspective? Are teams so desperate for talent that they do not want to see the flaws?

Interestingly, one of the people who helped police put the pieces together was a former Gopher recruit that is currently incarcerated for a crime he committed before he was recruited. Of course the Gophers suspended him...DOH!

Mal,

I'm still thinking about that dress negra.

These are descendents of slaves, is it fair to ask them to behave considering all their ancestors have been through?

I would like to hear your thoughts on renewable energy and the phase out of the synthetic fuel tax credit.

I think the fact that they are athletes and not scholars says it all.

It's power and fame that turns peoples heads. In the case of black athletes there may be some residual resentment against society, but I think it's mostly the product of people telling them how wonderful they are all the time. If you don't have anyone in your life who brings you back to earth, you can start to believe the flattery. You can see the same sort of process among politicians. Even if they start out honest, the temptations get to them after a while.

There does seem to be more bad behavior lately. What's up with that?

I agree with JJ that money, power and fame really messes with someone's mind. They seem to think they are untouchable.

Well everyone strokes their egos constantly, coaches, fans, they have people telling them how great they are all the time how could any girl NOT want them...?? she must be one of those girls that says NO but really means YES? RIGHT??

Untouchable is a good word... these guys think they can do ANYthing they want because most of them have for YEARS... teachers, parents.. long as they keep scoring its all good!
